Getting Started.
If you are getting ready to start a new project, there are a few things you need to do before you start spending money.
1. Define the entire scope of the project and create a materials list and budget.
2. Take your own measurements so you will be able to check estimates or purchase the correct amount of material.
3. Find the material that works for your sub-floor and project specifications. In wet areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, porches, etc., find products that have moisture resistance warranties.
4. If you are using a contractor or company, check them out for past performance.
5. Get more than one estimate. Most contractors or companies offer free estimates, take advantage of this.
6. Be proactive. Before the project begins, have a schedule defined and monitor the project from start to finish.

Despite the abundance of do-it-yourself information available, most flooring projects require specialized tools and are labor intensive. Installing laminate, tile, or wood in a square single room is not usually too difficult for the seasoned do-it-yourself-er. But even small flooring projects require specialty tools that make it too costly to do with the purchase or rental costs of these tools. If you decide to give it a go, we strongly recommend following the first three steps outlined to the left. If you need help on installation specifics always consult your product manufacturer's guidelines. For more tips and information try the links below for a look at how we do it.
